EXPT – Evidence for intermolecular forces:-
1) Floating corks / candles:-
Note where the corks / candles move to and how they move when ‘wet’ corks are floated on water
2) Floating needle:-
Try to float a needle on water and hexane. You may use a piece of filter paper to help keep a steady hand. Note which is possible to float a needle on.
3) Liquid deflection:-
Fill burettes with the liquids in the table and stand a beaker underneath.
Hold a charged plastic rod near the jet of the liquid then fill in the table:-
