A comparison of the oxidation of 1^o, 2^o and 3^o alcohols.

• Add 5cm³ of dilute Sulphuric acid to a boiling tube.

• Add a few drops of potassium dichromate (VI) solution

• Add a few drops of propan – 1 – ol, a primary alcohol.

• Set up another tube using proan – 2 – ol, a secondary alcohol.

•  Set up another tube using 2 – methyl propan – 2 – ol, a tertiary alcohol.

• Heat the mixtures in a water bath for about 5 minutes and record your results.
